                  About our community involvement

At YP@X we believe in giving back to the community! This year we have started a series of community involvement activities through participation in local charitable events and organizations. The focus of our activities has been on education and the welfare of children and young adults in our community. Through our unwavering interest and civic involvement, we hope to prepare the young people for the world of work. Some of the major ongoing activities are:

                  Xerox Day of Caring

Day of Caring is taking place on Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Thousands of volunteers from local companies and organizations will make a difference at local agencies and schools, and in the lives of students and clients by completing much-needed projects.

Young Professionals @ Xerox will be volunteering at the American Cancer Society: Hope Lodge Hospitality House.

This is a great opportunity to  help our community!!

                  Flower City Habitat for Humanity

YP@X volunteers are working on projects with the local Habitat for Humanity:

School Supplies Collection Drive/ Fund Raiser: For low-income families, preparing their children to return to school each fall is a budgeting nightmare. Buying new school clothes along with required classroom materials puts a great strain on the tight budgets for families. YP@X has partnered with the local Habitat for Humanity to collect school supplies for inner-city families. The collection drive was very successful. Thanks to everyone who participated in this event!

                  Rochester City School District

YP@X volunteers are closely working with the Technology and Curriculum Development Superintendent at the city school district to organize community involvement programs with the school district. Some of the activities in which we are already actively involved in are:

Virtual Enterprise (VE): A district-wide business program that provides students with the opportunity to run their own virtual business.  Students are then involved in every aspect of a real business (HR, Accounting, Product Development, Production, Marketing and Sales).  Students compete in a regional and NYC Trade Fair.  Students end the year with filing taxes for their company. YP@X volunteers are serving as board members on the city team.

Teach the Teachers: We have visited the Edison School and the Henrietta Bryant and Stratton campus and have led technical discussions with the teachers on topics such as social media, web development and online privacy.
